Trip Hop

Monday, April 14th, 2008

This semester, my project went from a synth pop piece to a more depressing trip hop song.  I used motu symphonic instruments, pro tools le, and fruityloops to compose the piece.  The vocals were effected with delay and loop points to give it a more electronic feel.  I would have liked to have made the vocals sound a lot more strange but chose not to because I still wanted the song to be easily digestible by the average listener.  Overcompression was used on the mix of the instruments to add a pump to the song and let the vocals sit nicely in the front of the mix.  other than that it was a whole lot of reverb.

So everyone, here is my finished work, entitled “The Truth.” I literally just finished the mix down process. I used reason with the help of a MIDI controller to compose the instruments (which has a broad range of synth sounds) The mixing I did with ProTools LE. To record vocals I used the MBox, which has a varitety of imputs and is very user friendly (If im not mistaken, a few of you have the Mbox as well) See yall in a bit, looking forward to hearing the songs

About two weeks ago I scrapped the idea of putting words to this song out of intense frustration. However, forcing myself to work without potential vocals left me with a little more space to fill out. This is a very “busy” song, but I spent a lot of time layering it and am quite proud. For kicks, I’ll be throwing up a handful of my “work in progress” tunes in an attempt to get this blog busy.
